Hawaii Scuba Diving In A Tropical Paradise
![]() |
If you're going to visit anyway, Hawaii scuba diving must be on your agenda. Hawaii, the 50th U.S. state, is located about 2300 miles from the mainland. It is situated in the north Pacific Ocean, a good sign that Hawaii scuba diving will be amazing. Travel to Hawaii is by airplane or ship. Strangely enough, the island contains interstates belonging to the Interstate Highway System, which of course do not extend to the mainland.
Preparation for your Hawaii scuba diving tour should begin far before the travel date. If you do not know how to use scuba equipment, schedule lessons immediately. Be sure to bring any scuba certificates with you on the trip to show your competence. Experienced divers will want to check and service their equipment. Often it is simpler to rent a complete set of gear once you arrive for your Hawaii scuba diving expedition. Renting gear makes your luggage much easier to manage, and airlines dislike carrying air tanks, even if they are empty.
The weather during your Hawaii scuba diving trip will generally be warm and temperate. The conditions can change quickly, depending where on the island you go. Hawaii scuba diving visitors are unlikely to stray far from the coast, but one might find rainforest downpours inland, or cold weather at the top of a volcano. The hurricane season runs from June to November, so take that into account when planning your Hawaii scuba diving itinerary.
Try to make reservations for all your Hawaii scuba diving destinations before you leave. If you aren't sure which spots are the best, call a local diving club or look online. If you are interested in specific spots, such as certain types of fish or coral, call the Hawaii Tourism Authority and find diving guides that cater to those spots. Preplanning your Hawaii scuba diving spots can save you the headache of finding out the tours you wanted are full when you arrive.
If you plan to perform spear fishing during your Hawaii scuba diving trip, a fishing license will be required. You can contact the Hawaii Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) for information. Be sure to apply far in advance, so that you get approved before you arrive. Some species are prohibited or have limits, so find out what these are before your Hawaii scuba diving trip. Currently, a new law prohibits taking female spiny lobsters, Kona crabs, and Samoan crabs. If you don't know what these species look like, perhaps it is best to forget the fishing and simply enjoy the natural delight of a Hawaii scuba diving vacation.
